13” tall X 3.5” wide
The appendages and head are urethane resin, cast from original sculpts, and sewn to the cloth body. Each face is carefully painted using acrylic paint. The body is hand sewn. These design choices give these smaller dolls a 'rag doll' aesthetic.
There is a ribbon on the back of the doll so it can hang on a wall. If you would like me to make a doll stand for it, you can add one to your cart here:
The body of the doll was used as a canvas for exploring mark-making with paint and abstract designs. Something I have never tried before but I really approve of the outcome.
The addition of gold, white, and black knotted threads is not incidental. Knot-making has a long history in witchcraft, mythology, and folklore where tying knots serves to bind or release, create or destroy, depending on the intention. From harnessing the wind for sailors, to keeping your true love at your side, to healing headaches, and casting protection over the home, knots are the ties that hold our history and our stories together.
And finally, the doll body is filled with black salt. Black salt in witchcraft and lore has a less complicated history than knot-making. Typically, black salt protects your domain and keeps annoying people at bay.
These dolls act as vessels for the safety of your home and personal well-being.
